In 1966, Bill and a college buddy, Mike Pauli built a raft from scrap wood and 50-gallon oil drums. Launching their 12×16′ craft, the “Miss Bonnie” from Peoria, Illinois on June 5, 1966 they set out to navigate the Illinois and Mississippi rivers on a 1200 mile journey to New Orleans.
